New Renju Rule Proposals


TARANNIKOV RULE

  1. The first Player plays a black stone at the center of the board.

  2. The second player can choose to swap side or put the 2nd stone. If he chooses to swap, the first player puts the 2nd stone. The 2nd stone must be put in 3x3 area around the center of the board.

  3. The player next to play can choose to swap side or put the 3rd stone. The 3rd stone must be put in 5x5 area around the center of the board.

  4. The player next to play can choose to swap side or put the 4th stone. The 4th stone must be put in 7x7 area around the center of the board.

  5. The player next to play can choose to swap side or put the 5th stone. The 5th stone must be put in 9x9 area around the center of the board.

  6. The player next to play can choose to swap side or put the 6th stone. No more swapping after the 6th stone. The game continues as RIF standard rules (with forbidden moves rule for black).
SAKATA RULE
  1. First player puts 3 stones (from 26 openings, like with RIF standard rules).

  2. Second player adds 4th and 5th stones (white and black) wherever he/she likes.

  3. First player chose color (swapping or not).

  4. Continue as RIF standard rules (with forbidden moves rule for black).
YAMAGUCHI RULE
  1. First player puts 3 stones (from 26 openings, like with RIF standard rules), and at the same time, suggests how many alternative 5th moves to be made.

  2. Second player decides to swap or keep as white and plays the 4th move.

  3. When black plays the 5th move, he/she needs to play as many alternative 5th moves as suggested by tentative black when opening the game.

  4. White chooses one of the 5th moves, and plays the 6th move.

  5. Continue as RIF standard rules (with forbidden moves rule for black).
SWAP GOMOKU RULE
  1. Play alternates between one player who starts the game (called Black because he is playing with black stones) and another player (usually called White because he is playing with white stones).

  2. When there are THREE moves on the board, the tentative white player can choose to swap side.

  3. The first player to get an unbroken line of five stones whether vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, wins the game.

  4. Overline (six or more in a row) is not considered as a win (or loss) for both sides.
